It was the summer of 2014 and I’m having a simple catch with a buddy from my baseball team.
It’s going as well as any catch does, and we’re slowly backing up to long toss distance.
My friend throws me the ball, but I didn’t hear the usual pop that accompanies a baseball hitting a glove’s pocket.
Instead, I heard a weird snap.
And as I looked into my glove, my worst fear turned into a reality.
The leather holding the webbing lacing together had finally ripped.
The glove was unusable. It had actually broken for good.
After three years of heavy, daily use, the glove was ripped in all kinds of places, but I never thought it would actually fall apart.
I thought it would be my baby forever.
However…
This sprouted an inner determination to find an even better glove for the next chapter in my baseball life.
And so, I devoted the rest of the dwindling summer to finding my next game glove.
After a few weeks of research, I found my “dream” glove.

And I soon realized that maybe it wasn’t my dream glove.
So I went back to the drawing board and doubled down on my baseball glove research.
I contacted company after company.
Talked to every person I could.
And even visited every baseball store within a two hour radius of my house.
My love for baseball gloves quickly exploded.
I loved learning how different patterns closed, how different leathers hold up, and even debating Rawlings vs. Wilson for hours on end on social media and with my friends.
