2017 Wilson A2000 RC22 vs. 2016 Wilson A2000 RC22

I think most of us can agree that it is cool to see the year-by-year progression of Wilsons’ models. They change most of them each year, especially the pro game models like the RC22. So, when Wilson released the 2017 Wilson A2000 RC22 early, I figured it would be a great idea to do a comparison between the two:

First, a little background. Robbinson Cano made the switch from Spalding to Wilson. Robbie used a classic version of the 1786 pattern for a few years, and then made the switch to a more colorful model. Wilson thought it would sell well, and so the RC22 was born.

With the RC22, Wilson took their 1786, stamped ‘RC22’ on the thumb, and gave Cano the color choices. The RC22 is 11.5″ and has the same shallow/medium pocket that I love. In regards to the ‘RC22’ stamping, it is used to differentiate the RC22 from other 11.5″ models.

The colorways Robbie designed are actually sick. The new and old RC22 both have a black and mariner green colorway, but Robbie made some less-than-subtle changes. The Super Skin back stayed. Let’s take a look:

The 2016 Wilson A2000 RC22 had a pretty sick colorway The all black leather with mariner green web. If you took a look at this in person, you would agree with me. The mariner green did not fade easily as well.

Great news on this glove. Since it now the “older” RC22, it is on sale. You can get it $70 off for $180 here. A great deal on a great glove.

The 2017 Wilson A2000 RC22 is different from the 2016 one, and you can tell just from looking at it. No more mariner green web or binding, instead the back is mariner green. I am not a fan of this look at all. Robinson Cano did not even use it in games this year as well, sticking to his model from last year. However, I have found that some people like the extra flash better, and if you are one of those people, you can get it here.

Which one should you buy?

I would recommend the 2016 model. Besides the colorway, both RC22’s are pretty much the same. However, the price on the 2016 models is more attractive to someone looking for the best deal.
